Do It Right the First Time

A septic system is the most important utility on your property. If it’s installed wrong, it’s not just a mess—it’s a health hazard and a massive financial liability.
At H&S Sitework Construction, we don't cut corners on sanitation. Whether you are breaking ground on a new home in Dedham or replacing a failed leach field in Ellsworth, we follow the Maine Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules to the letter.
We work directly with local Site Evaluators and Town Code Enforcement Officers to ensure your system is permitted, passed, and built to last 30+ years.
We handle every component of your wastewater system, from the pipe leaving your house to the far end of the leach field.

Most homeowners don't know where to start when they need a septic system. We guide you through the entire process to ensure your investment is protected.
Here is why our clients in Hancock County trust H&S:
1. Design Coordination Before we dig, the soil must be tested. We have relationships with trusted local Site Evaluators in Hancock County. We can connect you with the right people to get your septic design (HHE-200 Form) completed quickly.
2. Property Protection Septic installs can be messy. We use our tracked equipment to minimize lawn damage. When we backfill, we grade the area properly to shed water away from the system, preventing future freezing or flooding issues.
3. "Rock-Solid" Pricing Excavation in Maine often means hitting ledge. Because we are experienced in Downeast terrain, we can give you realistic expectations and strategies (like hammering or blasting) upfront, so you aren't blindsided by costs later.
4. Certified Expertise We are Maine State Certified Septic System Installers. We know the code, we know the inspectors, and we don't bury mistakes.
We don’t tackle these jobs with underpowered rental equipment. H&S Sitework owns and operates Compact Excavators and Track Loaders sized specifically for residential work.
We specifically chose tracked machines for the Downeast terrain. Unlike wheeled skid steers that can tear up your ground, our tracks distribute weight evenly.
Our equipment capability includes:
Precision excavators for tank setting
Low-ground-pressure tracks to protect lawns
Laser levels for gravity-flow pipe pitch
Hydraulic hammers for ledge removal
Step 1: The Design Every system starts with a plan. If you already have a design from a Site Evaluator, we will quote it. If not, we will refer you to a trusted evaluator to get the soil tested and the plan drawn (HHE-200).
Step 2: The Permit & Dig Once the design is ready, we help you submit it to the Town Office. We excavate the bed, set the tank (concrete or plastic), and install the distribution pipes using laser levels for perfect flow.
Step 3: Inspection & Cover Before we cover anything up, the Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI) must inspect the work. We coordinate this visit. Once passed, we backfill with clean gravel and loam, leaving your yard ready for seed.
We work with homeowners, real estate agents, and commercial developers across Central Maine and the Coast.
New Construction: Turnkey installation for cleared lots and new homes, including 1000-gallon tanks and stone beds.
Failed Systems: Carefully removing old, cracked, or leaking tanks and installing modern replacements.
Camp Upgrades: Replacing old cesspools or barrels with compliant systems for seasonal camps.
Difficult Sites: Installing raised mounds, Eljen GSF systems, or concrete chambers for small or rocky lots.
Real Estate Closing: Rapid repairs or inspections to get a property sold on time.
Costs vary based on soil conditions (sand vs. clay vs. ledge) and the size of the home (number of bedrooms). A standard gravity system is cheaper than a pumped or raised mound system. We provide free, transparent estimates based on your specific HHE-200 design.
Not always. Sometimes it is just a broken pipe or a clogged baffle. However, if the leach field has failed (stopped absorbing water), it typically needs to be replaced. We can dig a test pit to diagnose the issue before quoting a replacement.
We install both, depending on the site access and your budget. Concrete is the industry standard for durability (it won't float or crush). Plastic is excellent for difficult-to-reach camps or islands where a heavy boom truck cannot go.
Don't trust your sanitation to the lowest bidder. Call H&S Sitework Construction for a system that is installed to code and built to last.
